Watering Can Garden Art
This time of year, my flower garden starts to look a little sad. Many of the plants have already bloomed and are starting to fade, especially the lilies and iris. I like to mingle in some garden art to add a little interest, especially in the spring when the garden is still a bit bare, and in the late summer, when things start dying off. This year, I made these DIY cup and saucer bird feeders and I also have a beautiful piece of upcycled plate art. I didn’t make it, but there are tutorials all over Pinterest for making these as well. Here is a quick watering can DIY that can also add a bit of whimsy into your garden space.
I found this adorable little watering can at a thrift store a few years ago for $.50. It is usually mixed with some other chippy white pieces to create a spring vignette.
I also had some crystals from an old hanging candle holder that I knew would come in handy someday. It seems like all serious DIYers have to be collectors
hoarders, always imagining what things could turn into later.
I used floral wire to attach the crystals to the can, running the wire through the spout. This can get a little tricky the more you put in there. Just be sure to wrap the ends around something inside the can to keep them from pulling back out. I just used a short little pencil. Once you have all the wires inside, you can remove the pencil and just form all the wires into a circle that is bigger than the opening. Then I used a short little shepherd’s hook to hang the watering can.
You can do this with larger watering cans or even teapots. What an easy way to add some fun to your garden spot!
