Table Makeover With Decoupage
Hey guys! I’ve been on a DIY kick lately – looking at everything in my house to see what I can do to it to make it different. Sometimes even the slightest change or update can make everything look new and fresh. I came across this stunning stenciled table by Amy at Always Never Done and wanted to do my own version. But, I didn’t want to have to buy a stencil.
I have a small black table much like the one Amy used and I had some black and white scrapbook paper with script writing.
Hmmm – decoupage to the rescue!
My table was already black, so I gave it a quick cleaning and sanded the top a bit so the glue would hold better. I covered the top with a pretty thick layer of glossy ModPodge. This was the first time I have actually used ModPodge, but I’m sure it won’t be the last. It was so easy!
Next, I put the scrapbook paper on top and smoothed it out with an old credit card to remove any wrinkles. I didn’t get them all out, but it just added to the charm of the table. This paper was fairly thin so a thicker piece would have probably worked even better.
Then, I applied a final layer of ModPodge on top and let it dry…
Once everything was dry, I used scissors to cut as close to the edge as possible, then sanded to get a clean edge. Here’s the completed project:
I’m really happy with it and now I’m ready to tackle the next DIY project!
