Make Any Bottle a Vintage Treasure
Today’s project is a quick and easy way to turn any bottle into a vintage treasure. We all love those old apothecary labels or the ones for cure-all potions from days gone by. You can recreate that look using some simple labels and a little distressing.
Items Needed: Brown labels. These are available at Staples in different shapes and sizes. Just be sure you get the brown ones. You can also get lighter brown ones from Online Labels, Distress Ink pad or other brown ink.
Step One: Choose your bottle or container. This can be done on any pretty bottle or small container. Here is the one I used:
Step Two: Choose your design. You can get some awesome labels from http://thegraphicsfairy.com/ or just do an image search for vintage labels. Here are some of my favorites from a Google search:
Step Three: Set up your label sheet in your software and load it in the printer. Microsoft Word has templates for most label types so this makes it easy. Make sure you load the paper is loaded so that the print will be on the right side ( I learned this the hard way).
Step Four: Let the ink dry for a few moments and then cut out your design a little smaller than the label. You don’t need to worry about being perfect – these are supposed to look old, so the edges should be uneven. You could even tear the edges on the rectangle ones. Do not remove the peel and stick backing yet!
Step Five: Distress the edges. This adds the aged look to your labels. Just dab the edges of each label on the inkpad. I used some Distress Ink and just dabbed the edges of each label.
Step Six: Peel and stick.
It really is that easy!
Now you can start your own collection of beautiful “vintage” bottles and containers.
